Staying motivated to learn a language can be difficult at times. Whether work, school, or just the difficulties of the language itself is in the way, it’s very important to maintain focus while still understanding what kind of journey you are on.

Beginning Your Language Journey

One of the major responses we often get at BondLingo is the fact that Japanese is too hard to learn, and it’s true; it’s very hard to learn, and in fact more difficult than it is to learn English. Let me tell you why.

First of all, English is considered the global language, and many people strive to learn it. As a result of this, there is a strong global motivation for people to improve upon the language, resulting in more resources available and people to practice with.

Contrastingly, Japanese is not considered a top-3 global language, as many people think that Chinese and Spanish follow English thereafter. As a result, you’ll find that not many people around you speak Japanese, and even if by chance you’re actually in Japan, the people you speak with will respond to you in English more than half of the time.

How to combat this? Well, we can’t help you with the fact that people simply prefer speaking English, and we already wrote an article on all of the resources you should look into for studying the language, so we won’t bother you with that again.

What we did not mention in this article is the fact that it is extremely important for you to come to terms with the fact that the language is inherently difficult to get the hang of.

You should keep this in your mind as a point of reference when you get discouraged, as there will be many times you feel like quitting or giving up (trust me).

From struggling to memorize the katakana or hiragana symbols when you’re first starting out to introducing yourself in Japanese and embarrassing yourself to being frustrated at complex challenges like understanding Kanji, the journey of Japanese is not a straightforward one.

But what if we told you your journey through Japanese didn’t necessarily need to be as bad as we make it sound? We’ll, that’s part of our mission here at Bond Lingo. We want to make sure you absorb a lot of material quickly, and do it through engaging material.

We hope that you continue to support what we’re doing here at Bond Lingo, and stay tuned for the next quick read in the coming week ☺
