Using the particles よ ぞ ぜ to add extra expression to you Japanese communication

Expressing yourself with the particles よ ぞ ぜ in Japanese
We will start with a brief introduction of each particle and learn about their uses. Once we have explained all 3 we will then move on to some example sentences to enhance your understanding and allow you to use them confidently in you Japanese conversation.
So we will first start by looking at よ YO in Japanese, this is going to be really fun!
Using the よ particle in Japanese.
The particle “Yo” is exclusively used at the end of sentences. It can be used with both casual and polite sentences. Yo has a few different meanings of expression and the first of which is that it makes the sentence more emphatic.
Let’s look at an example of this:
Imagine that your kid thought it was the weekend, but in fact it’s Friday and they have to go to school. You could feel empathy for them and say:
今日は金曜日ですよ。
Kyou wa kinyoubi desu yo
Today is Friday.
Another usage of よ is to provide extra emphasis to a sentence. The meaning doesn’t change, you are just adding extra emphasis, much like the English exclamation mark!
Take a look at this example.
これは僕のお金だよ
Kore wa boku no okane da yo
That’s my money!
よ is almost like a universal particle. It is used by people of all ages and genders. We are now going to look at the particle ぞ which is very masculine and informal.
Using the ぞ particle in Japanese.
This particle is used often by males with a lot of confidence and energy. You may have heard phrases like this before If you are a big anime fan:
行くぞ
Iku Zo
Let’s Go!
Yes this particle is used a lot like よ however is much stronger and is most often used by males. The ending is usually dragged out depending on how fired up the speaker is. You really only use this after plain form verbs and also after だ, never です。
If you are a guy, this is a great way to become more expressive with your own Japanese and really connect with others in your peer group. Let’s look at a quick example sentence.
Imagine you are in an izakaya and super fired up to celebrate, you could say:
ビールを飲むぞ
BIIRU WO NOMU ZO
Let’s drink beer!
Great, not that’s Zo explained we are going to move onto the explanation of our last particle which is, ぜ Ze.
Using the ぜ particle in Japanese.
Ze, is much like zo, it is quite rude and again mainly used by men. The difference
Between ze and zo is that ze is slightly friendlier than zo. Let’s look at an example sentence for this.
このラーメン旨いぜ。
Kono raamen umai ze
This ramen is tasty
As you can see in this sentence the speaker must really like the ramen that they are eating and are really expressive about the fact.
Now we are going to look at a few more example sentences just to make sure you really understand how to use ぞ, ぜ and よ.

Make sure you read these sentences out a few times and really look closely at the endings. You should also try and make your own sentences with ぞ よ and ぜ too, to really help you master these verb endings.
