Vocational Schools
What are Vocational Schools?
In some types of employment, prior education, technical skills and experience is required. These can either take a few months or a few years depending on the route you decide to take. For people who would want a proper education on a certain type of skill but would want to learn in a quicker manner, vocational schools are perfect. Also known as trade schools or vocational colleges, these are secondary or post-secondary education that teach iits students technical skills that are required for a specific job. In Japan, vocational schools are referred to as “Senmon gakko” (専門学校) and its courses vary from 2 to 3 years long. This is quite good considering how studying in Japan as a foreigner, along with other necessities, is quite expensive.
What to look for in a vocational School
Honestly, it’s not just about looking at the qualities of the vocational schools, but we need to look at what you need and can provide as a student. So, first things first, we need to look at your financial situation and in turn, the cost of the school itself along with all the other expenses you would need to live as a student. Next, would be your Japanese level and the Japanese level the school requires. Most Japanese vocational schools require N2 level Japanese or at least 6 months of learning Japanese at a Japanese school. This is why most people who plan on finding employment in Japan long term, study Japanese for a year or two before moving on to a vocational school or University, which immediately sets them up for employment in Japan. One more thing you would need to consider is the availability of the course you would like to take, which can affect the location of the school you would enrol in. Of course, the quality of education and the popularity of the school is somewhat part of the checklist we need to look at when choosing a school, but honestly, what matters most is your dedication to what you’re studying!
